ARGENTINA, mkf. On the 31st of May at 2:00 p.m., the 19th Pilgrimage of Workers began at the Paraná Cathedral with the motto: Mother, together we struggle for a Nation with work, justice, and solidarity.

"If the preparations always demand ‘extra’ effort in our daily work, the feeling that the pilgrimage’s first step is going to be the beginning of the celebration to be experienced later on sustains us and encourages us," said the organizers, Miriam and Ricardo Ormello, who joyfully commented about the arrival of something special: "The gift of a processional Cross presented by the missionaries of the Rosary Campaign to whom we are always grateful for their constant willingness to give of themselves. Our oldest son, Pablo, led the pilgrimage carrying the cross was a plus for us."

The Wayside Shrine of Villa Warcalde

Already the day before, on May 30th, the weather was a great challenge, when the Family from Providencia –within the Founding of the Movement’s Golden Anniversary celebration in Paraná and on the eve of the 34th Anniversary of the Shrine (31st of May) – jubilantly welcomed the arrival of the Wayside Shrine from Córdoba, which was brought by the coordinators Mariela and Héctor Passi. "The rain and cold dominated, but this did not prevent a great number of youth, who are ‘crazy’ about the Blessed Mother from participating." Quitito Asensio, one of the founders, expressed this. Before Her, they committed themselves to carry out the Mission that the Father and Founder, Joseph Kentenich, entrusted to us for the next fifty years," commented Tita Rios. "It is not easy to express in words what the Blessed Mother gave us that day, among other things, that in spite of the predictions of bad weather, She offered weather conditions so that those who wanted to come could decide," both Miriam and Ricardo Ormello said.

"The pilgrimage of workers and the Auxiliary Pilgrim MTA were accompanied by a special guest: the Wayside Shrine brought from Villa Warcalde in Córdoba, before which the youth sealed the Covenant of Love, fifty years ago," said Quitito Asencio "…We brought Her to Paraná" and with Her the Schoenstatt Movement.

The pilgrimage of workers began in the year 1990 in an almost timid manner. That year the pilgrimage to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of the inauguration of the Shrine of La Loma was made on foot. Over time it became a fundamental milestone of the pilgrimage, which unites the Cathedral with La Loma, and on the way, they make symbolic stops: at the School of Manuel Belgrano to pray for education, at the installations of the ex-Railroad General Urquiza to pray for work and for the youth, at the Chapel of the Mother of Divine Grace to pray for the family, and at the home for the elderly located at the intersection of Avenue of the Americas and El Paracao to pray for the elderly.

The Pentecost fire

What was so special about this pilgrimage, which was carried out on Pentecost Sunday? According to the organizers: "Testimonies by teachers, youth, families, the elderly, and this year a tribute to the charity of men’s work for men by Caritas La Loma, which shows more and more commitment and which was very touching… The Jar of Hope was full of written petitions on sheets of paper provided by the Girls’ and Boys’ Youth from the Movement for the pilgrims throughout the journey. The fire of Pentecost was symbolized by the four torches carried by the youth along with the Argentinean flag that was unfurled and held by many hands in a fishermen’s network from Puerto Sánchez as a symbol of a social network composed of families and where the essential values are."

What do they expect for the twentieth pilgrimage? "Our dream is that this Pilgrimage will become a source of conversion for many one of hope and joy. May everyone receive the graces of our Shrine and may these be reflected in the daily work of each and everyone."
